MEET OUR PASTORRev. Kandy Nuce
John and I were born and raised in northern West Virginia. We married in 1970 and moved to Gallipolis, Ohio, in 1973 when John went to work for Southern Ohio Coal Co.
We have two married children, Karissa and Johnny. Our daughter, Karissa, is married to Danny Martyn, and our son, Johnny is married to Diana. We have two grandchildren: Grace Martyn (14) and Daniel Keith Martyn (8). And we have three “grand-dogs.” Our children reside in Gallipolis. My eighty-seven-year-old father and step-mother also live in Gallipolis.
John and I both grew-up in Christian homes. I became a true believer in Christ at the age of seven, and from then on, tried to live a life pleasing to Him and do all I could to serve Him.
Until God called me into pastoral ministry, I taught Sunday school classes: pre-school, elementary, teens, and adult. I was a youth leader twice. The first time was before I had children and the second time was when my children were teenagers. Therefore, I have two perspectives on youth leadership.
While our children were growing-up, I turned my hobby of cake decorating into a business. It grew and eventually I quit making birthday cakes and only made wedding cakes.
I volunteered as art teacher for a Christian school and taught art classes from K– 8th grade for five years. I quit teaching art when John was laid-off from his job and I needed a paying job. I got a job working in a Hallmark gift and card shop and quickly moved up to manager. I loved the job, but when God began calling me into ministry, I left the full time position and took a part-time job working for Ohio’s Adult Basic Literacy Education program.
I attended classes at the University of Rio Grande and Methodist Theology School of Ohio where I completed the Course of Study for ministry.
I was pastor of Bidwell U. M. Church for two years and pastor of Gallipolis Christ U.M. Church for seven and a half years. John currently works for Holzer Medical Center’s nutritional dept.
Outside of church, I was a Girl Scout leader and a Cub Scout Den Mother. I am currently an active volunteer with the Red Cross. I was president of the Holzer Medical Center Volunteer Chaplains’ Association for three years. |
